Dear Monty
We are doing research on my paternal side which is Berna.
Except for a dozen American relatives I have never known if there were any other Bernas in this country.
My Grandfather was George Edward Berna who landed in N.Y.C. around 1880.
We can trace our genealogy to 1606 to Giovanni Berna in a little town in the Italian Swiss town of Prato (Canton Ticino).
Before that I am aware that there was a Catholic Martyr who is being considered for sainthood who was born in this same town @1450.
We are not sure of the generations before him or that connect him to Giovanni Berna later on.
Does any of this sound familiar?
We also know that around 1800 a number of Bernas seemed to have moved to France and also to Frankfurt, Germany.
Does any of that sound familiar?
Thank you for whatever help you can offer.
Look forward to your reply.
