Hey everyone. I'm one of the few Shealy's in the northeast USA. For a while now, I've been trying to find information on the history of our name, but a lot of it is unreliable.
From what I can gather, I guess Shealy originated as Shule, meaning shoe-maker in German. It got changed when Shealy's emigrated to America. I guess there were a couple Shealy officers fighting for the south during the Civil War too. Today, most Shealy's live in the SC or VA areas...Anyone else have some other info, or correct mine?
Also, I'm curious as to what out family crest looks like. The most reliable one I've seen is a gold diagonal stripe containing 3 6-pointed stars over a light blue shield, with a black shoe on either side of the stripe.
Any info would be greatly appreciated :)
