Hi Vicki and Sandra:
I am researching the Croake/Croke families of County Kilkenny (especially Kilkenny City) and Ballingarry, County Tipperary.
I have research that shows a Dominick Croak, with wife Mary Ronan, who had sons Thomas, bapt. 21 Sep 1814, and John, bapt. 1822, at St. John's Church, Kilkenny City.
My ancestor is John Joseph Croake/Croke, son of Thomas Croake, tanner. The Kilkenny Archaeological Society (KAS) has located two likely baptisms for John. One was baptized 18 Jan 1849, at St. Patrick's, Kilkenny City, son of Thomas Croake and Margaret Mangan, and the other was baptized 14 Jun 1854, at St. John's, Kilkenny City, son of Thomas Croake and Mary Dwyer. I'm having the KAS check into the marriage records of the siblings for a father Thomas who was a tanner. The father Thomas of either John could have been a son of Dominick. This will be researched later by KAS.
My grandfather's aunt, Mary Frances (Croake) Moriarty, told her children that they had relatives in Australia. I see from the postings from Konrad and Catherine Turner that their ancestor Thomas Croake died in 1886 in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia. Research from the KAS shows that Thomas and Julia/Johanna (Cahill) Croake's children were baptized in St. John's, Kilkenny City. I would like very much to exchange information with them and link their family to mine and yours.
